after mukatsuku records summer hammond organ screamer from billy hawks (mukat 052) the label goes deep on an international funk tip. few years ago label manager nik played in france and the promoter pulled out a biosis now 45 that he never knew existed up till then and was generally thought to be a long album track only. an extensive search revealed nothing online including popsike/discogs/ebay except a tropical seller who d just bought a huge caribbean collection with the record included saying he d never seen it before either and he was keeping itâ&#128,¦failing to secure a copy themselves the label licensed it instead and created their own 45 edit which retains all the funk & soul of the elongated album version into a 7 inch friendly format. on the flipside and 1973 tumba safari from afro train get s a funky afrobeat re touch for peak time club play that would save you several hundred pounds on an original if you could actually find a copy !

dark entries and emotional rescue team up to further explore psychic tv’s acid house years. psychic tv was formed by genesis p-orridge and peter christopherson of throbbing gristle with alex fergusson of alternative tv in 1981. after various line up changes, the band shifted direction to dance oriented songs influenced by the house and techno scenes of detroit and chicago. by 1988 the group included dave ball of soft cell, fred giannelli of turning shrines and matthew best of carcrash international. during the summer of 1988 the group recorded a batch of songs at time square studios in london that would appear under the guise of various artists compilations jack the tab’ and ‘tekno acid beat’. the idea behind these ‘compilations of imaginary artists was creating a sense that a healthy acid house scene existed in the uk. virginia was the studio project of dave “mista luv” ball and then-wife virginia “gini” ball, a classical violinist who toured and recorded with siouxsie and the banshees and marc almond.

limited to 300 copies! following his recent releases on tartelet records and oye, uffe kicks off the nos classics label with a record consisting of three mutated disco tracks that marks the start of his own new copenhagen-based label. run together with fellow tartelet affiliates vktr and jeppe wolmer (of vivian international) the first records a-side is a dubbed out percussive testament to the darkest and saddest times of uffe s life. a2 is a melodic and dreamy homage to one certain apartement located on the lijnbaangracht in the jordaan area in amsterdam. on the top floor of this worn down old house there was light to be found in these dark times. on the flip-side tings gets trippy. the title track finds uffe deeply intertwined in an occult-like bass-heavy ritual. an attempt to escape reality and cure the scandinavian misanthropy and the grey weather it comes with. a twelve minute voodoo disco tool perfectly crafted for a dancefloor which most probably does not exist.

london based disco outfit faze action team up with celebrated anglo/brazilian artist, nina miranda for proto house crossover. faze action have always managed to take different musical traditions and blend them to create sounds that are somehow familiar whilst simultaneously containing the unexpected. last year s mangwana, featured long time faze action collaborator, zeke manyika, singing in his native zimbabwean shona over faze action s infectious disco production. this time, british/brazilian singer, artist and all round creative force de majeur, nina miranda, takes things further with her invitation to vamos pintar or let s paint, in portuguese. on the surface there is the familiar faze action restyled proto house but it soon becomes apparent that the brothers have appropriated more than just a brazilian vocal. punchy 808 drums and fizzy synths are infused with brazilian caixa and pandaro as if they had always been designed to co-exist. the remixes come from the illustrious max essa, whose british born/tokyo resident background chimes well with the international nature of this latest offering. his slo-mo bubble dub simmers with mediterranean sun that reclines into romantic piano flourishes and dubbed out vocals, whilst the extended dub manages to draw out the original elements at their original tempo. faze action s own paradise 90 dub closes the package by keeping close to the original arrangement with added economy and plenty of dub delay of course.

mick has been active in the seedier corners of electronic music for more than 30 years, first immersing himself in the world of hi-nrg and new wave before embracing the house, techno, acid and electro explosion of the late 1980s. aligned with dj hell in the 90s and more recently the intergalactic fm crew, hes the quintessential selector. a life spent digging in the undergrowth for deviant dance music has given him the edge that makes a truly gifted spinner, without riding on hype or studio productions. however, mick isnt adverse to the odd outing on vinyl, having previously appeared on international dj gigolos both solo and as the kinky lovers with sometime partner isabella venis, but these moments are few and far between. for this release on arma, mick has given us two edits that speak to his distinctive style as a dj the original tracks are cult choices re-moulded into deadly, subversive club weapons. the brooding darkwave of himmelfahrt 89 is enough to turn the most indifferent bar crowd into swaying, baying denizens of the night, while stay silent pummels out a relentless electro motif that teeters on the edge of destruction for 11 thrilling minutes. these arent crowd-pleasing dj tools, and neither are they slick and easy edits of obvious classics. this is a peek into the inner workings of a man with decades of experience working masses of flesh into a sweaty fever pitch using sounds youve never heard before. the mastering on micks edits was undertaken by none other than dutch electro legend rude 66, while the striking artwork on the sleeve sees arma reach out for the first time to french artist judex. the nerve-shredding, broken op-art assault was originally found in a book published by cult illustrator sam rictus.

international reggae star alborosie returns with the dub version of his celebrated “freedom & fyah” album from last year titled “freedom in dub”. the distinctive production of these ten newly recorded dub mixes underscore alborosie’s skill and credibility as a master of dub. all tracks are produced and (mostly) played by alborosie and recorded at his shengen studios in kingston, jamaica.

roots vocalist barry brown has an inimitable style that has long made him a favourite of reggae enthusiasts. drawing from the popular phrasing of horace andy, but morphing it into his own delivery through the kind of wordless slurring that occasionally resembles the sound of a quacking duck, brown found his way into the jamaican music scene through the many amateur west kingston talent contests of the early 1970s, along with fellow aspiring talents such as johnnie clarke, sugar minott and the african brothers, and the mighty diamonds. he also honed his vocal skills on local west kingston sound systems such as tape tone, together with other young dancehall-oriented youth such as barrington levy, sammy dread, roy taylor and tristan palmer. there are still conflicting claims as to who was the first to record brown, with production veteran bunny ‘striker’ lee and sugar minott among the contenders, but in any case, during the late 1970s and early 1980s, he produced a range of captivating work for various producers, much of which is rightly coveted today. ‘ital rock’ appeared on barry’s 1983 lp i’m still waiting, issued by rocktone international, a spin-off of sugar minott’s black roots outfit, based in queens, new york (with a further branch in toronto), the b-side has dean fraser’s previously unreleased electrifying saxophone cut, rescued from dub plate obscurity by jah fingers.

ltd new years deal - 50 % deal - in 1999, serotonin records released their final output, which happened to be the very first official release by fischerspooner, before they moved on to great international acclaim. serotonin was their introduction into the dance music world. one might think that the label would have grown only larger and more successful from this particular high point in its history - but life is uncertain and circumstances unforeseeable. label founders john selway and jason szostek became drawn away in different directions and the label ceased. recently however, they began to discuss bringing back the imprint, re-releasing or remixing old material, digging up their own unreleased productions and producing new material bridging the gap between their early styles and what they create individually now. they also began to look around for new artists that complimented the amorphous serotonin sound

first va release from delusion..delusion started at the beginning of 2016 in bremen, with a same-titled event series in different venues/spots hosting some national and international guests, delusion now offers its own musical output. a project which isn t bound to any specific sound, moving between ambient, drone, experimental but mainly techno, hardware based and analog influenced structures form harsh resonator sounds in context to playful arpeggiators and deep buzzing basses on sweet acid. delusion creates unknown atmospheres.

one of the most accomplished and celebrated bands in the field of contemporary, unclassified pop music. almamegretta are masters in combining a wide range of elements such as dub, funk, reggae, world and electronica, all filtered through their own deep southern italian roots. now let’s discover the dub version of ennenne. dub is a unique discipline. a strange and sometimes unpredictable music practice. it was just after the release of ennenne that we decided to take back the multi track recordings and start to rework the music through the mixer. in order to give a new shape to the project, we thought it was a good idea to invite some of the best producers and musicians on the dub scene. following a very natural process, our vision began to take the shape of an international all star event, including contributions from historical dub artists such as adrian sherwood, lee scratch perry, dennis bovell, and actual celebrities of today such as gaudi, vibronics, manasseh, khalab & messmorize, and mario conte one the most interesting producers on the italian experimental scene. a bunch of old and new friends with whom we share the same vision.

an introduction part 2 turns the heat up with more dance floor leaning contributions from four american artists. from long established names such as lady blacktronika to relative newcomer byron the aquarius, each artist delivers a different but equally powerful piece. marcos cabral’s ‘prochainement’ is a driving, dubbed out melter with stomping kicks and big-room claps under fuzzy synths, whilst byron the aquarius drops his signature dose of funk into ‘full moon’. one of the standout breakthrough artists of last year, the atlanta producer has been part of the dimensions team for some time. queen of beatdown, lady blacktronika steps up with a timeless, tripped-out house classic for her contribution ‘can we still be friends?’, her vocal oozing melancholy. rounding up is dj aakmael with ‘transit’, a raw, flexing cut that we’ve come to expect via his massively impressive output and his own superb imprint, unxpozd entertainment.

dimensions recordings explores its darker side on an introduction part 3 with intergalactic oddities and twisted techno constructions, the release is definitely ones for the late hours. ‘crosstalk’ from gear heads london modular alliance opens, a squelching, electro, hardware excursion demonstrating a small snippet of what’s to come from the talented trio. next, french artist, upwellings steps up to demonstrate his purist approach as he unites elements of dub and techno to create the beautifully spacey ‘soft shadows’. the third offering comes courtesy of fachwerk label boss and prolific techno artist, mike dehnert, who presents raw but melodic track in ‘tokio,’which maintains his minimal and stripped back aesthetic beautifully. chicago’s steven tang in his obsolete music technology rounds off the release with ‘comb freq,’ a devastatingly powerful mix of acidic, bleeping dance floor energy!

12inch whitelabel, limited to 300 hand stamped and numbered copies, coverartwork by utramoodem. schockglatze is the distillate of a longstanding collaboration between artists working across the frontiers of several forms. with audio- visual performances, band projects and international exhibitions as part of their armoury, spõnk, nik nowak and moritz stumm have been causing a stir within the art and music worlds for years. spõnk has already cooperated with a range of acclaimed vocalists including warrior queen, sensational and christoph waltz. he forms the solid basis and is the sonic central nervous system (scns) for the studio productions of schockglatze. nik nowak, most notably through his sound tank or ôpanzerö (2011), has in recent years worked closely with musicians such as (the late) dj rashad and dj spinn, and sonic poly-math the bug. last but not least moritz stumm aka ultramoodem, who brings to schockglatze an inimitable rhythmicity and graphic dimension. as a graphic artist, vj and video director he created a singular technique of synergetic audio-visual effects redolent of a hyper-voodooism, the aesthetic of which has become a signature style of schockglatze. the warlord ep showcases their various influences and is only a taste of the sound from éheart of the mandelbulbÆ and includes a remix by hyperdubÆs ikonika

for the fifth instance in their reissue series, echovolt records brings us four lush house gems by one of the most influential italian producers. carlo troja aka don carlos. don carlos started as a dj in the late 70s and debuted as a producer towards the end of the 80s with the cult single alone , which pretty soon became one of the anthems of the international deep house scene. inspiration ep focuses on some of his finest productions from the mid 90s that were only available on his rare aqua vinyl promo ep. this releases makes an effort to capture don carlos unique approach on classic house with lot of afro-american jazz sounds and ambient influences, that created a timeless deep jazzy house with a strong mediterranean twist on it!

emotional rescue starts its 5th year by shining a light on one of europe s best underground 80s label in spain s auxilio de ciento. their terra incognita volumes i and ii collated an international mix of synth-pop, new wave, world and industrial sounds to a small but appreciative following. released in 1985 and 1986, the volumes have become highly regarded and rightly sought after, finding a place in discerning playlists from london to amsterdam and dusseldorf to glasgow. here, taking a premise of avoiding the songs unearthed on other recent reissues, is a unique album itself. starting with denis mpunga & paul k s esoteric criola, a fusion of fourth world ideals and poly-rhythmic funk. the music of mal, bene gesserit and la caida de la casa usher, however, soon highlight that the decade also belonged to dark, minimal synth as to shiny balearic ideals. the inclusion of hector zazou with bony biyake and their contribution komba, is a fitting continuation from their cult noir et blanc lp before, things continue with us avant-artist danny alias and his humorous big brother -response- to laurie anderson s superman o. image pour image loose indie-pop and the inclusion of seminal beast of burden lead again to a zazou contribution, this time in his collaborative stranger in a new light, before the compilation eclectically ends with the dadaesque lakota and the post punk dub of instead of s closer, angels
